Lyon is a paramedic, educator, researcher, and public speaker who identifies as trans. With a career spanning from 2014, Lyon co-founded the Collaborative Care Queer and Trans committee, later evolving into the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion at the Nova Scotia Paramedic Emergency Service, EMCI.

His academic background in human rights, gender studies, and indigenous studies, combined with personal experiences as both provider and patient, uniquely positions Lyon to deliver impactful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) education in healthcare.

Lyon actively contributes to DEI education, bridging his intersectional experience as a patient and provider to empower clinicians. Since 2015, he has educated new hires at EMCI on sexual orientation and gender identity in emergency care.

Additionally, Lyon conducts research to assess emergency care for transgender patients, aiming to enhance health equity. He is a sought-after speaker at conferences, actively contributing to the discourse on healthcare, diversity, and inclusion.
